63% now in remission - and that's not all our members report

It's official: Defeat Diabetes is changing the health of Australians, helping them put pre- and type 2 diabetes into remission within three months.

Our first member survey reveals extraordinary results for those living with type 2 diabetes, from weight loss to reduced insulin to improved blood glucose.

Some of the findings include:

  • 63 per cent of members with type 2 diabetes are now in remission, and all others have reported significant decreases in blood glucose levels.
  • 84 per cent of members have seen significant weight loss, with an average drop of 8 kilograms (or 2.55 kilograms per month).
  • 100 per cent of members previously taking insulin have been able to discontinue its use.
  • 30 per cent have reduced or stopped diabetes management medications – this includes metformin and exenatide.
  • 100 per cent who tracked waist measurement reported a decrease in waist size, with 80 per cent dropping five centimetres or more (that's a whole clothing size!).
  • 62 per cent of members reckon their feeling of health and wellbeing has improved.
  • 84 per cent declared the program had changed their views on what ‘healthy eating’ means.
  • 38 per cent feel more energised.

Our founder Dr. Peter Brukner could not be more pleased: “These are simply outstanding results that add to the growing body of evidence that demonstrates type 2 diabetes can be put into remission through a low carb lifestyle.

“I'm delighted to see the Defeat Diabetes Program transforming Australian lives because today, type 2 diabetes is the single biggest health issue the nation is facing," he says.

With 1.2 million Australians with type 2 diabetes and a further two million with pre-diabetes, who are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, we're proud to be taking action and helping thousands of people send type 2 into remission.

As we've reported before, there is a stack of evidence showing that a low carb lifestyle can help control glycaemic levels, support weight loss and in many cases, send pre- and type 2 diabetes into remission.

And according to Dr. Peter Brukner, education is the key to fewer cases of type 2 diabetes.

"We still have a long way to go in the fight against type 2 diabetes. Education is key to this epidemic and one of the challenges we’re encountering is that old habits die hard due to out-of-date advice," he says.

"We all grew up with the healthy eating pyramid and were told to eat mostly carbs and limit dairy and meat. The reality is that processed foods and carbs are making us fatter and risking our health.

"That's why I created the Defeat Diabetes Program - to help Australians understand that there is a better way to fuel our health.”
