Submissions are now closed. Thank you to all who shared their story and opinions. Stay tuned for updates from the inquiry into diabetes as they are announced.

A letter to our members

We couldn’t believe our ears when we recently learnt that the Australian government announced an inquiry into diabetes (check out the video).

"What does an inquiry mean?", we hear you ask. Good question!

The committee (mostly doctors who are sitting parliamentary members) will gather evidence and investigate 5 things:

  1. The causes of diabetes
  2. The management and treatment of diabetes
  3. The impact of diabetes
  4. The relationship between diabetes and obesity
  5. The effectiveness of current government policies

Music to our ears! We’re really hoping this is the start of change; change to how the medical profession looks at diabetes remission, change to dietary guidelines and change to how people with type 2 diabetes choose to manage their condition.

How you can help

The committee has asked for submissions that talk to any of the 5 points listed above. We know the success of our members puts us in a unique position to talk about how low carb can successfully reverse type 2 diabetes. And we’ve also heard from many members that the approaches offered by their doctors in the past didn’t help.

This is the sort of thing the committee needs to hear.

Would you help us raise awareness of the impact of low carb on type 2 diabetes by writing about your experience and send them a personal submission? Here are a few other thought-starters to get your creative juices flowing!

  • Was your GP/doctor supportive of low carb?
  • How did you come across the idea that low carb could help your type 2 diabetes/pre-diabetes?
  • Did you know remission was possible for type 2 diabetes?
  • What would you like others to know about how to manage type 2 diabetes?
  • How long have you lived with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes?
  • What physical effects did you experience with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes?
  • How has your life changed since you started following the lifestyle changes recommended by Defeat Diabetes?

You can either send it directly or email the Committee Secretariat:

Thanks in advance for your support and for lending your voice. It's the only way things can change!
