So you’ve made it past Australia Day, and you’re staring at the scales. But, unfortunately, it’s not looking good; since Chrissy (and let’s face it since Covid-19 started), the kilos have slowly been creeping on.
With one in three Australians putting on weight in the past two years, it’s not surprising many of us are feeling our waistbands to be a little tighter, our dresses a little snugger.
Recently, researchers have found that losing 15kg (if you’re an unhealthy weight) or 10 – 15% of your body weight (if you’re not particularly overweight) can accelerate the remission of type 2 diabetes.
To help people see the signs of remission as quickly as possible, we’ve worked with Defeat Diabetes dietitian Nicole Moore to create a 4-week Rapid Weight Loss Program. It’s designed specifically for those looking to quickly shed some extra kilos while still enjoying three filling, nutritious meals a day.
The Defeat Diabetes Rapid Weight Loss Program is FREE to all Defeat Diabetes members, with Meal Plans available from Thursday, February 4th.
So if you want to tick your new year’s resolutions off sooner than you thought possible, get started with the Rapid Weight Loss Program and make your health a priority this year.
Is this one of those fad diets where I’ll starve myself?
We hope not! Over four weeks, the Rapid Weight Loss Program follows a 4:3 low calorie approach. This means you’ll be eating low calorie for four days, with a higher calorie intake for three days. And don’t worry, we’ve worked the plan so that you’ll only be eating low calorie for two days at a time, making it far easier to stick to!
We’ve ensured that the meals have plenty of protein to keep you feeling satisfied throughout the day. We’ve developed new and delicious recipes and included some favourites from the Defeat Diabetes Program. There’s even an approved list of meal swaps to keep you on track!
Why only four weeks? I’m worried I’ll just put the weight back on straight away.
While low calorie meal plans are helpful to kick start your weight loss journey, they’re tough to stick to in the long run. We want our members to follow a new way of eating that’s easy to keep to and doesn’t leave you feeling hungry or deprived.
At the end of the Rapid Weight Loss Program, we recommend adopting the standard Defeat Diabetes meal plan (which focuses on carbohydrate restriction instead of calorie restriction).
You’ll still see incredible results (just read some of our success stories!), but it’s far easier to maintain. And if you’re living with or at risk of type 2 diabetes, you’ll be able to keep your weight at a healthy level, and long-term remission can become a reality.
Imagine that. A one month weight loss challenge that will lead you to a healthier weight and diabetes-free life! So, does it actually work?
Yes! By losing just 10-15% of your body weight, you should feel and see many benefits from day one:
- More energy
- Less bloating
- Fewer aches and pains
- Reduced medications
- Improved blood glucose control
- Lower risk of diabetes-related complications
- And in many cases, remission of type 2 diabetes.
It’s important to know that not everyone who loses weight will be able to put their diabetes into remission; however, losing a substantial amount of weight comes with a load of health benefits.
But is it safe follow a Rapid Weight Loss Program?
We’ve known for years that weight loss can not only prevent diabetes but often put it into remission. Evidence suggests that losing a substantial amount of weight can help the pancreas return to normal insulin production and that type 2 diabetes can be put into remission in many cases.
Our Rapid Weight Loss Program is only a short-term strategy. After four weeks, we recommend following our sustainable low carb diet to help maintain your weight loss in the long term.
The more we can look to weight loss as the first step for those newly diagnosed with pre and type 2 diabetes, the better!
As always, if you are on medication, we recommend consulting with your healthcare practitioner.
Hold on a minute, I thought Defeat Diabetes didn’t focus on counting calories?
You’re right. We don’t promote counting calories as a long-term approach to managing diabetes; our primary focus is on getting folk to reduce their carb intake by reducing sugars and starchy foods. A low carb approach will help with steady weight loss. It’s sustainable and doesn’t limit your dietary options, so it’s easy to stick to.
That’s why the Rapid Weight Loss Program is recommended for no longer than four weeks. But of course, if you’re finding it easy to keep to and have more weight to lose, you can continue to follow the four week Rapid Weight Loss Plan.
Sounds great! How do I get on board?
The Rapid Weight Loss Meal Plans launch 6th of February.
